How it works
A business day (working day) is any day that is not a Saturday or Sunday and β when you tick a holiday list β not a public holiday in that list. This calculator walks from your start date to your end date one calendar day at a time and counts the days that qualify, including both the start and end dates themselves when they are working days. So Monday to Friday of the same ordinary week counts as 5.
Worked example
Monday 5 January to Friday 9 January 2026, with no holiday list ticked: all five days are weekdays, so the answer is 5 business days. Tick the US list and pick Monday 19 January 2026 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) as one of your dates, and that Monday drops out of the count.
Which holidays are used?
The lists use the standard published dates for 2026: US federal holidays (with observed dates where a holiday falls on a weekend, e.g. Independence Day observed on Friday 3 July 2026) and UK bank holidays for England & Wales (e.g. Boxing Day observed on Monday 28 December 2026). Scotland and Northern Ireland have some different dates β if your office follows those, untick the UK box and adjust manually.
Common questions
Does the count include the first and last day?
Yes. Both endpoints are counted when they are working days. If your office counts deadlines exclusively instead, the Deadline Calculator on this site counts the way deadline rules usually work β the start day is not counted.
Can I count days in 2025 or 2027?
Yes β weekends are always excluded correctly for any year. The public-holiday lists, however, currently hold the published 2026 dates only, so for other years leave the boxes unticked.
Why is a UK date I know missing?
The UK list is England & Wales. Scotland (e.g. 2 January, St Andrew's Day) and Northern Ireland (e.g. St Patrick's Day, 12 July) observe additional or different days.
